In the Policy Address delivered in January 2017, the Government announced the "Five-Year Plan for Sports and Recreation Facilities" (the Five-Year Plan) to launch 26 projects, involving an amount of $20 billion, to develop new and improve existing sports and recreation facilities. These projects will help meet the demand of the public and promote greater sports participation in the community. In addition, under the Five-Year Plan, we will conduct technical feasibility studies for another 15 sports and recreation facility projects to prepare for their implementation in the future.
As at June 2022, we have obtained funding approval from the Legislative Council for 21 projects. Projects with approved funding will provide heated swimming pools, football pitches, tennis courts, basketball courts, etc., for public use. The Government will continue to implement other projects under the Five-Year Plan.
